GAZ, the Gorky Automobile Plant in what is now Nizhny Novgorod, opened in 1932 building licensed versions of Ford's Model A car and AA truck. It later made the Pobeda, Volga and Chaika cars and trucks such as the GAZ-51 and GAZ-66, and today builds commercial vehicles.
